2024: The year our vision came to life

As the year comes to a close, it’s time to look back on our successes of the last 12 months. From exciting events and brand-new partnerships to building our team and working with our investors, we’ve taken huge steps forward in our mission to bring rapid and reliable EV charging to underserved areas. Read on for our CEO Steve Leighton’s hand-picked highlights of 2024 and if you’d like to hear how we could help your business in 2025 get in touch with our friendly team for a no-pressure chat.

A powerful start

‘It’s my job to drive the company forward and deliver a great return to our investors’ says Steve.

At the beginning of the year we announced a £25 million investment by Toronto-based OPTrust and additional funding from Zapgo's management team and founders, Kingsley Capital Partners.

Hitting our goals with Fairgame

For Steve, inclusion has always been at the heart of Zapgo’s mission:

‘We’re making sure that we leave no one behind, we’re taking infrastructure to parts of the UK that others are ignoring to make sure the customers in those locations have the same opportunity’, he explains.

One example of this is our unique partnership with football organisation Fairgame which we announced in August. Representing 33 lower and non-league football clubs, Fairgame, like Zapgo, is committed to positive change. Partnering with Zapgo will benefit the clubs and their communities by helping them to make the transition to green energy and earn money from their car parks even on non-match days and off-season.

Our journey with HeritageXplore

As well as serving areas ignored by other charging operators, we also know that placing charging points in desired destinations is key: ‘We want to place our infrastructure in locations where people genuinely want to spend their time’, says Steve. In October we signed a ground-breaking deal with HeritageXplore to help make that happen. With some of the finest stately homes and gardens in the UK on their platform, HeritageXplore is a natural fit for Zapgo. Steve says that working with Zapgo will help preserve HeritageXplore’s sites for generations to come:

‘We look forward to working together to enhance these incredible sites, boost visitor numbers and enable historic house owners to earn revenue from each charge and future-proof their estates at the same time', he said.

Creating conversations in innovative industries

We took time to attend multiple industry events and two of our most successful were the Hotel and Resort Innovation Expo at London’s Excel and the Welsh Dairy Show. Here we advised business owners on our zero risk, zero effort, zero cost offering and discussed how Zapgo could provide an additional revenue stream from their very first charge.

‘The breadth of events attended this year underlines our commitment to supporting all communities and types of business. Everyone benefits from access to rapid and reliable charging infrastructure.’ Steve Leighton, CEO Zapgo

People power

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible team behind the business:

‘what really excites me is the team of people that I’ve put together’, says Steve, adding: ‘we’ve got some fantastic people who really know the sector, really know their stuff, are committed to sustainability and decarbonisation and are doing their bit to drive this business forward.’
